You will know whether you will catch a barramundi or not by the frictional resistance force between lure and water.
Barramundi #894
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL

I was very busy to write a report for the work this morning. I went fishing to the urban rocks when I have reached the end of the chapter. The low tide started from 2.9m around 1:00pm. The sea water was slightly wavy, steady cold and murky and so anybody could catch a barramundi. Bingo! Barramundi for the first time in a while.

By the way, I can know whether I will catch a barramundi or not by knowing the frictional resistance force between lure and water.
If my lure swims very well in the water, I can expect to catch a barramundi with a very high probability.
I remember a certain feeling of the frictional resistance force between my lure and the water when I caught 894 barramundis on our shallows.

That's why I could expect to catch this following barramundi.

Sunday afternoon
34cm and 33cm Pikey Bream
by using prawn bait on Texas-rig

It's not easy to catch a pikey bream on lure in the day time.
But I wanted to eat deep fried breams for dinner tonight.
I could catch a dinner sized pikey bream with the Texas rig by using barramundi-fishing rod and bait-cast reel.
Basically, the Texas rig is a technique used for fishing with soft plastic lures.

I used an edible raw prawn on the Texas rig this time.

The Texas rig is much bigger than normal bream fishing hooks.
Still, you can catch them.
The fish-window for the nice dinner sized pikey bream is very short.
The water current shouldn't be weak at the outgoing tide.

34cm nice sized pikey bream

Normally, these fishing gears were used for  catching a barramundi.

34cm and 33cm were very good for dinner in size.

Flathead took a prawn bait on the Texas rig also.

Thank you very much.

Double hooks cause less damage for catch and release.

A lot of stuff happened so I am a little tired and reduced the frequency of fishing.

Oh, yes, I have to write about double hook again.

Do you feel concerned about using double hooks on your lures?
I know that you want to use very strong hooks with hardly coming off from the fish.
You won't let go of the prizes you aimed for, will you?
Who wouldn't say so?
Still, I want to recommend you to use double hooks.

What I mean is that, of course, one must use the treble hooks now and then, but to use them all the time would be impertinence.

Please try to see the expected advantages of the double hook.
  • Double hook is hardly caught from the obstacles.
  • Double hook can easily be detached without pliers because it doesn't need a split ring between hook and lure.  (It rarely would become weakness.  But the methods are many various for this problem.)
  • Lure looks better with double hooks than with treble hooks to compare with an actual fish. The rear double hook moves so smoothly as they swim around in the sea water.  It looks like a tail fin.  The front double hook looks like pectoral fins.
  • As a bonus, double hooks are also much nicer to fish than using treble hook.  They cause less damage for catch and release.

Double hooks are matching very well with Reidy's Junior B52 and Reidy's Hellraiser.

Double hooks help the fishing tackle shop sell more expensive lures.
  • To use double hooks helps beginners save money.
  • To use double hooks helps experienced and skilled anglers buy more expensive lures from the fishing tackle shop.

Saturday afternoon
Queenfish #20-21
Trevally #41
REBEL MINNOW 115 mm
BOMBER LONG A 14A

I was about to go out for fishing this morning.

Oh no!
I put many lures in a big bowl temporarily recently because I have been very busy at work.

Finally, I chose to take it easy at home again.
I gave up going out for fishing this morning after all.

By the way, I thought that the above custom has taken on the Australian life-style.
According to Andrew, it's a "Northern Territory lure rack".

I scheduled, "I will not," but afterword I changed my mind and went out for fishing.

An original REBEL MINNOW 115 mm was much better than their current model.
I thought that an original one had been a "remarkable improvement" on the current model.

The water was very, very clear.
I caught a small queenfish #20 on REBEL MINNOW 115 mm in a very strong water current.
I has just started using Sufix 832 30LB for my Shimano Scorpion 1500XT.
The flight distance of a lure was improved very much to compare with FINS 30LB.
However, I prefer FINS 30LB to Sufix 30LB for my bait-cast reel.

Friday morning
Trevally #36-40
DAIWA Dr. MINNOW F

I got paid holidays pay because I worked on my days off and a lot of overtime.
So I had compensatory days off on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Unfortunately, I had a very serious ingrown nail and couldn't walk properly on Wednesday.
It was very difficult to cut a very bad ingrown nail by my self.
To solve the problem, I went to see a doctor and was recommended to go to see the specialist by the doctor yesterday.
Thanks to the very nice treatment by the specialist, the pain was disappeared.
However, I shouldn't wade through the shallow water today.

I went fishing to an urban channel this morning.
I didn't need to wade through the shallows there.
I knew that I couldn't expect to catch barramundi at that tide timing.

So I tried to use a very nicely small lure.

I made constant twitching actions on my small lure.
It looked like a small garfish or longtom.

I probably caught around 20 trevally there.
It was a very easy fishing with a small lure.
If you have not experienced to catch any fish with lures until now, you should try this following lure fishing.
You will be crazy about lure fishing.

He has caught 14 metery barramundi so far this year.
Mr. George Voukolos Jr
DOA

Mr. George Voukolos Jr is a barramundi fishing legend among barramundi fishing legends.

I was taught how to fish in Darwin city by Mr. George Voukolos Jr in 1989.
He chose fishing rod, reel, line, sinker, hook and so on for me.
He taught me how to make fishing-knots.
The next day, I caught my first 74cm queenfish from the wharf.
I had George teach me how to catch a long tail tuna.
The next day, I caught my first 4.5kg longtailtuna with a vibration lure from the wharf.
George suggested me to use a REBEL minnow for catching sea barramundi on shore.
Using REBEL minnow, I understood how to master characteristic of sea barramundi trait correctly.
I was very lucky because I met the best teacher for fishing in Darwin first.
As a result, I have been crazy about fishing since then.

I caught a metery barramundi only once.
I think that George catches around 30 metery barramundi every year.
He has already caught 14 metery barramundi so far this year.

Of course, he can catch a metery barramundi in the cold-dry season.
He caught a very solid 104cm winter barramundi in June too.

I didn't know how to use this above lure properly.
George's lure-action: Pump, pump and stop

Fortunately, I had an opportunity to listen to George about his fishing tactics.
The following memo shows the best timing for catching a metery barramundi.

Winter Barramundi #892
SQUIDGY FISH

The water was very cold and very clear.
The sea surface was slightly wavy which means very good for catching sea barramundi.
In addition, the moon phase was as follows,

The moon was growing.
There should be more slightly wavy sea surfaces in this period.

The right bait pattern should be a very young mullet.
I chose a Squidgy Fish 70mm Black-Gold as a bait.
Jig-head was very light.

As a result,

Many Pikey Breams in Darwin in July

I had been too busy to spare time for catching barramundi since July 23.
1:30pm I went fishing to the urban rocks in accordance with outgoing-tide timing for catching barramundi.
I couldn't see the right bait pattern.
Probably I should have used a Squidgy fish 70mm Mint Jelly at that time.
I couldn't catch any barramundis there after all.

Normally I don't use frozen-prawn bait for my fishing.
I prefer lure fishing to bait fishing.
But I bought a pack of frozen-prawn bait at the petrol station this afternoon.

3:00pm I went fishing to the urban channel in accordance with outgoing-tide for catching pikey bream.
"Pikey bream fishing in Darwin" is held mostly in dry season when the climate and temperature is mild, the weather is good and the sun is not too strong.

Very easy fishing.

Small!

I caught more than 10 pikey breams there.
These breams were smaller than in the average year.
I almost lost interest in catching those pikey breams because of having caught them too often.

I wanted to try to use a new lure.

Very small lure but heavy!

Trevally took it soon.

3 more trevally by this lure.

3 rockcod also.

But I couldn't catch any pikey bream with this lure after all.
