To provide a soft plastic bait which is adaptive to both Barramundi and Squid.
ZEREK LIVE SHRIMP
Mr. Mark Jagla

To provide a soft plastic bait which is adaptive to both Barramundi and Squid on our shallows.

Mark and his son caught some barramundi and squid on an urban shallow water last Sunday.
They waded through the shallow water in the late outgoing tide.

They used the ZEREK LIVE SHRIMP with an additional conversion-hook on the tale.

I didn't have that idea at all.
Mr. Mark Jagla has original ideas.
That's a very novel idea.

From my experience, these squid were 20cm-25cm in size and they were swimming in very clear and 30cm-50cm shallow water.
Mark's method made sense.

I accidentally recovered my lost lure from the sea this afternoon.
The water temperature is rising but ???

I went fishing to an urban shallow water this afternoon.
The sea surface was slightly wavy which means very good for catching barramundi at the very good timing of incoming tide.
The water temperature wasn't very cold.
The water colour was murky on the shallow.
But I didn't catch any fish there.

I was suddenly accosted by someone at the shop on the way there.
He said, "We will soon be catching more barramundi because the water temperature is rising now."
I only smiled at that time.
As many attentive readers of my fishing blog have already known, I didn't catch many fish in this coming season every year on our urban shallow waters.
The season, from the middle of August to the beginning of October, that the water temperature is rising should be the most difficult time to catch fish on our urban shallow waters to me.
That is more difficult than the winter season.
An unanticipated situation occurred in this winter.
Normally, I caught some nice sized barramundi even in the cold water.
I couldn't catch many barramundi in this winter even though we had a very good monsoon rainy season last time.
I would have never imagined that.

I didn't catch any fish this afternoon.
"When one door shuts another opens."
I caught a very nice lure on the shallow water.

I accidentally recovered my lost lure from the sea.
I didn't even imagine that we would meet there this afternoon.
That was absolutely unexpected.
This lure was my lost Maria MJ1, without mistake.
There was a clip, FORCE TEN STAINLESS DUO LOCK SNAPS #2, to the lure, which only proved.

I recovered my lost lure with YO-ZURI SS-Minnow with double hooks.

Eating Sashimi in Darwin?

It has been introduced in Wikipedia as follows,
Parasites in fish are a natural occurrence and common.

Raw fish should be frozen to an internal temperature of −20°C (−4°F) for at least 7 days to kill parasites.
It is important to be aware that home freezers may not be cold enough to kill parasites.
Traditionally, fish that live all or part of their lives in fresh water were considered unsuitable for sashimi due to the possibility of parasites.

I have been eating sashimi in Darwin since 1989.
Luckily, I have never gotten food poisonings caused by anisaks and ciguatera.
Of course, I have never eaten sashimi of any fresh water fish in Darwin.

I don't recommend to eat sashimi of fish caught in very warm waters very much.
We must be alert to the dangers of food poisoning.

Basically, lean flesh of fish found in warm waters shouldn't suitable for sashimi.
OK.  Please don't disappoint!

It effect is not so much as the best taste of sashimi but you can enjoy sashimi in the dry season.
It's not bad.

Normally, sashimi is eaten with soy sauce seasoned with wasabi and vinegared miso.
Lean flesh of fish found in warm waters has less good taste component therefore it should be suitable for marinating.
Originally, it was eaten after being marinated in soy sauce, miso in order to preserve the foods as well as to kill harmful bacteria.

Raw fish marinated in these following sauce can be kept fresh and tasty for more two days when refrigerated.

  • Soy sauce: spoon 1 and mirin: spoon 1 (sweet cooking sake-wine)
  • It will take 4 hours to be marinated at least.

You can buy mirin from Woolworth, Coles and Asian foods shops.

  • Miso by mixing a little mirin:  (sweet cooking sake-wine)
  • It will take 4 hours to be marinated at least.

You can buy miso from Woolworth, Coles and Asian foods shops.

Ginger, garlic, chili, sesame and sesame oil  are used depending on the taste.

Barramundi, Long-tail tuna, Spanish mackere, Blue salmon, Golden snapper, Mangrovejack, Whiting and Brassy trevally are very suitable for marinating with soy sauce and mirin in Darwin..
I recommend to eat with vinegared rice for sushi.
These are really delicious!
Queenfish should be recommended to be eaten with vinegared sweet miso.

Sliced barramundi flesh marinated in soy sauce, mirin and ginger for 6hours in the fridge.

Put the vinegared rice on a nori, and put sliced marinated barramundi on the rice, and finally fold the nori.
You may sprinkle lime juice or put some wasabi paste if you like.

Another very nice marinated sauce

Ahi Poke sauce (Hawaiian)
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper
  • 2 tablespoon finely chopped Macadamia nuts

ZEREK LIVE SHRIMP
Winter Barramundi
by Mr. Alex Patsalides
Flathead #50 by Hiro

I couldn't catch many winter sea barramundi in July.
To tell repeatedly, it doesn't matter whether the water temperature is cold or not seasonally.
Barramundi must eat to live even in the cold water.

I don't know what have happened in Darwin harbor.
In my case, barramundi won't take hard body lures on our shallows recently.
Some people recommended me to use soft plastic prawn or shrimp lures for catching winter barramundi.
I don't know whether prawn have been more familiar with winter barramundi in Darwin harbor.
On the other hand, I don't know whether mullet haven't been familiar with winter barramundi in Darwin harbor.
I think that the absolute number of mullet is getting smaller in Darwin harbor.
I didn't see a large group of mullet on our shallows these days at all.
I expected that I could catch many barramundi this year because we had a very nice monsoon rainy season before this winter season.
But I haven't caught many barramundi so far this year.
Actually, I still can catch many small trevally, bream, flathead and whiting with prawn bait in this winter season.
It was thought that the route of a large group of mullet had to be changed by something in Darwin harbor.
But it's not actually quite that simple.
It is thought that something irregular has happened in the Daly river also.
In addition, I don't know whether Darwin harbor has been stocked with larval barramundi or not recently.

I didn't catch any winter barramundi today.
I only caught a flathead with ZEREK Live shrimp.

Winter sea barramundi
Live Target Prawn 70mm

Normally, I could catch some nice sized barrmundi on our shallows even in July of the cold season as follows,

Winter sea barramundi is very solid and beautiful.

It took 10minutes for landing this winter season's big Barramundi.
Land based,Darwin,NT,Australia

But I didn't catch many winter sea barramundi this year.
I don't know why.

Nevertheless, many people caught many winter sea barramundi in some places.

It doesn't matter whether the water temperature is cold or not.
They are very sensitive to temperature changes.
Barramundi must eat to live even in the cold water.

I received some interesting pictures from Mr. Brendan Pringle.
He caught some winter sea barramundi at an urban creek recently.

Hi Hiro.

We have been using any prawn imitation lure that is a natural colour.
Live target prawns have been the best so far natural clear brown color.
Outgoing tide has been great around our urban rocks and urban creeks.
Most of the rocky areas have been fishing very well for legal barra to 70cm and small cod.
I have not caught a fish on a hard bodied lure or my usual favorite squidgy fish this year.
It's all been on prawn lures.
Have also had no luck on the incoming tide for some reason.

This is the best lure we have found.  Lure size is around 70cm.

These are the new squidgy prawn they are bringing out. Cannot wait to get some.

These are the new barramundi look alike lure that tackle world has brought out. I am going to try these tomorrow afternoon at an urban rock around 5pm.

Yeah. This one you will recognize also caught at the rocks where I believe you fish a lot this I'd my friend Billy

Whiting should be the best fish for eating in sashimi style in Darwin waters.

Picnic day is a public holiday in the Northern Territory of Australia which takes place every year on the first Monday of August.

I have read many articles on "Gorgeous dishes" for the work since this morning and suddenly got a craving to eat some very nice sashimi.

I thought that I had to catch some very fresh whiting for eating in sashimi style.

So I went to Fishing & Outdoor World.
Mr. George Voukolos Jr taught me how to catch whiting there.
I needed some small hooks, ball sinkers, portable bait jar, live fish bag and frozen prawn.
George recommended a simple rig with a running sinker to me.

I waded through the shallow water.

Bogagrip (USA) is essential for my fishing life.
I had to go for the jugular with Bogagrip when I would be bitten by a friendly saltwater crocodile.  v(*'-^*)-☆
Shimano Sustain 1000FG reel and ST.CROIX fishing rod were for catching whiting today.

Shimano Stella 2500FE reel and Shimano Tcurve fishing rod were for catching barramundi as backup weapon.

I caught many bream against my will.
I didn't want to eat them because they were not tasty in sashimi style.

Noisy fish!

Noisy Trevally!

Finally, I caught a very nice whiting two hours before the lowest tide.

I caught four whiting there.

Whiting should be the best fish for eating sashimi in Darwin waters.

From what I've seen of the product so far, Polish lures are pretty good!
Trevally #42
Rockcod #321-322
Salmo STING 9F

Don't forget that good jobs are very hard to come by these days.
I like a Polish lure a lot recently.
HRT Lures Mad minnow 70mm should be one of the best shallow diving lures in the whole world.
On the other hand, there was one happy thing yesterday.
I was given a Polish lure by a friend of mine.
And then I went fishing to an urban channel when the tide was going out this morning.
The water was very clear.
Even with that, the wind was very strong.
However, I enjoyed using a Polish lure very much.
Anyone can easily make movements rich in plain actions by adding irregular movements to periodical movements without requiring so-called skillful rod actions.

The biggest trevally of the day.

Rockcod took it when actions are stopped.

Barramundi would take this fish.
But there were not barramundi here.

Good restaurant sized rockcod
