Barramundi move around to be in search of jelly prawns in February and March.

It has turned out that there is a certain tendency in my usual fishing locations.
I have a very quiet time at this time of year in my usual fishing locations.
However, March is far from bad season for fishing barramundi.
I caught many barramundi at the mouth of the Daly river in March.
Some people caught some metery barramundi at Shady Camp in March.
That will be proof of that.

I caught a nice mangrovejack around the rocks in the usual fishing locations of Mr. Peter Politis at the mouth of the Daly river in March.
This mangrovejack spat out many jelly prawns when I landed him on the boat.

In reality, the amount was 5times a many as the above picture.

So why do these kinds of things happen?
Barramundi move to around to live to look for good baits.
Especially, medium and small sized barramundi have no will before jelly prawns.  I think.

They move around to be in search of jelly prawns in February and March.
Unfortunately, much fewer jelly prawns now visit my usual fishing locations than formerly.
I went to East Point, Channel Island, Buffalo Creek, Lee Point and Myilly Point to fish during Easter holidays.
I didn't see many jelly prawns there.
Needless to say, I didn't catch any barramundi there.

Jelly prawns have a rapid life cycle from eggs to adults.
Their many offspring are produced several times a year in NT waters.
March should be one of them.
Also, May and September might be one of them, there is no validation of this.

Barramundi is so crazy about jelly-prawn that they often forget our lures when there are many jelly prawns in the water.
However, barramundi won't take jelly prawns positively in a clear water.
In that sense, barramundi differ from queenfish, trevally and mangrovejack.
They will take jelly prawns even in a clear water.

Mr. Peter Politis can catch many barramundi even in a water containing many jelly prawns.
He didn't use any twitching lure actions in that situation.
He just reeled the line slowly.
His lure was swimming just beneath the surface of the water.
Twitching a lure in a water containing many jelly prawns causes to run in panic.

Barramundi fishing by boat with Mr. Peter Politis

I was invited to Channel Point by Mr, Jack Priore.
And I stayed at the holiday house of Mr. Peter Politis for four days in Channel Point.
They are next door neighbors.
The dinners that Mr. Jack Priore made were very delicious every night.
I went fishing to many creeks and rocks in the mouth of the Daly river with Mr. Peter Politis by his very nice Stabicraft boat every day.
We caught some nice queenfish, mangrovejack, trevally and many barramundi.
I leaned a lot of different things there.
Usually, I use lures with the original hooks and split rings by land based in my fishing locations.
But some hooks and split rings of mine were knocked out by barramundi in Peter's usual fishing locations.
Peter taught me how to fish around very difficult rocks on lures.

The form of raising a fishing rod held to the top, and holding it up high to the front.
He used a Yozuri Crystal minnow for that difficult situation because this lure had a very nice wobbling action.
He didn't use any twitching lure actions in that situation.
He just reeled the line slowly.
His lure was swimming just beneath the surface of the water.

As a result, he caught many barramundi there.
I copied his fishing technique and caught many barramundi too.

Yozuri Crystal minnow

On the other hand, I lost a really big barramundi on a very nice hand made lure while trolling.
Mr. Bill Jackson made it for me.
That made a very attractive vibration to barramundi during trolling.
I used a 45lb leader line for the trolling against the advice of Mr. Peter Politis.
That barramundi rushed with tremendous force.
I couldn't cope with difficult situation.

These were rare, joyful discoveries for me.
Thank you very much for your invitation to your fishing locations, Mr. Jack Priore and Mr. Peter Politis.

Large loop knot is the most effective method for connecting a leader line to a soft plastic lure in barramundi fishing.
Mr. Darren Forsythe

March 13, 2016 Sunday

My very good fishing friend, Darren Forsythe, and I fished at our usual fishing location near the Channel Island.
The tide was going out.

We know about the regional characteristics of our usual fishing locations very well.
We gave up using hard body lures in a moment with today's condition of the sea.

I hooked a barramundi on Squidgies Fish but couldn't land that fish.
Apart from that, I didn't have any fish bites.

By contrast, Darren caught three barramundi on soft plastic lures.

Normally I used a snap-clip to my lures, but I sometimes tried using a loop-knot to my lures without a snap-clip also.
I tried doing it the same way he does, but it didn't go well.

I could get a very interesting technique out of Darren on our way back to our car and scooter at last.
I really saw the light.
Wisdom is sometimes better than riches.
I'm a "not rich fisherman".
I must think hard how to fish.
Thanks, Darren Forsythe!

Darren uses a loop-knot to his lures with a 45lb leader line, but the loop-knot requires a large loop.

He uses a 45lb hard leader line of a Schneider.
This hardness of the leader line is an important key to make a large loop-knot.
As a result, his lure moves like the small fish or prawn, and thus attracts the interest of the fishes which are the objects of the fishing.

Darren caught a barramundi on a Squidgy Prawn.

Darren caught a barramundi on a green soft plastic.

I used a 20lb leader line to a Squidgies Fish with a very small loop-knot.

Or I used a 20lb leader line to a Squidgies Fish with a snap-clip.

I thought that Darren's large loop-knot more effective for connecting a leader line to a lure than mine in fishing in our usual fishing locations.

By the way, I caught a barramundi on a Bomber Long 14A at Mindil Beach on March 10.

I used a 20lb leader line to a Bomber Long 14A with a snap-clip.

I usually use a snap-clip to my lures because I'm a quick lure-changer.
It's a still effective method for connecting a leader line to a hard-body lure.

Using a loop-knot with a largely beautiful loop to a soft plastic lure, it should be the most effective method for catching a barramundi.

小エビの時期には、Bomber ゴールド?
Barramundi #1005
Bomber Long 14A Gold

March 10, 2016 Thursday
The tide: 19:30pm -- 7.94m
Is it the season in which dog faced water snakes become lively in March?
These venomous snakes probably won't attack people.
That could be fine if that were true but...

Anyhow I went fishing to a saltwater creek (culvert) tonight.
There was no moonlight.
The big tide water had came into a small creek (culvert).
The sea surface was wavy.
I won't use a soft plastic lure under the condition like that.

To see if there were some snakes, I sometimes shone my torch on the bank of a small creek in front of me.

I have a hypothesis.
Gold Bomber will become more effective for Jelly prawn season.

It might be a lucky hit.

バラマンディーの陸っぱりに非常に効果的なルアー
Lures to be effective for my land based barramundi fishing
The results of the count

バラマンディーの陸っぱりに非常に効果的なルアー

I caught (and released) 1004 barramundi on lures by land based so far as of March 6 in 2016.

100cm up ---- 1 (Helifish)
90cm up ----- 0
80cm up ----- 3
70cm up ---- 23
60cm up ---- 38
50cm up --- 116
Small ------ 823 (average size: about 45cm)
Total ---- 1004

The water depths of my usual fishing locations are very shallow.
An average water-depth range is 30cm to 70cm deep.
There is no steep-sided bank of a creek in my usual fishing locations.
Therefore, I use a lot of super shallow diving minnow typed lures in my fishing.

Lures made in Australia are normally designed for the boat fishing people.
There is a great demand for those lures in the market.
Those lures will touch the bottom of the sea easily in my usual fishing locations.
It will become a cause of catching bottom.
It will become a  cause of snagging in fishing.

I'm making sure to buy lures for me from local fishing tackle shops as much as possible
I usually use a quick clip with my lures because I want to use a large variety of lure.
I try to use more than ten kinds of lures every time.
I don't treat any lure specially.
However, good reeling feeling can be obtained with these above lures in my fishing locations.
I'd like Australian lure makers to produce more super-shallow-diving-jerkbait lures please.
This is nothing more than what I think.
