Barramundi #1119
Squidgies Fish 70mm
Hard bottom

It was not likely to rain on Sunday morning.
I went fishing at Mindil beach.
A large amount of sand on the surface of the sandy area was washed away by the continuously heavy rains in this rainy season.
This phenomena may seriously the scenery.
However, this is not troublesome for the land based barramundi anglers but rather convenient for them.
Many rocks are exposed on the surface of the sandy area at Mindil beach now.
Those rocks were buried in the sand before the continuously heavy rains.
The mullet come around those rocks in the shallow water in search of food.
The mullet love tiny planktons like lettuce, detritus, algae, green algae, green sea and diatoms, hence the name "bottom-feeder".

The tide water was coming into the rocky shallow water.
First, I hooked a small barramundi but missed that fish.
Second, I hooked a 80cm - 90cm barramundi but missed that fish.
A quick watch the my video on You Tube should make the above obvious.
Finally, I caught and released a small barramundi.
I enjoyed that a lot.
I have a feeling that we will have a very good season for the land based barramundi fishing after the rainy season this year.

Barramundi #1118
ZmanMinnowZ 90mm
Synchronize the lure and the water stream

Many people sent me messages and emails that they could never catch barramundi on lure by land based.
I know that they are getting frustrated with that as if I was used to.
However, I would like to refrain from commencing on specific cases.

Many people care about the colour of the soft plastic lure.
But, there is a more important thing than that in the case of the land based barramundi fishing.
It is the most important to synchronize the vibration of swimming of the soft plastic lure and the water stream.
It is a good idea to have a technique effectively continuing the vibration in water to arouse the bating instinct of fish while suppressing the rotation of the soft-plastic-lure body caused by water stream.
You need to reproduce normal swimming and irregular weak movements as if by the shaking of a tail fin of a real small fish in the shallow water.

We cannot tell anything to people except for the things we have experienced before.
This technique doesn't call for special skill.
All you have to do is wind fishing line steadily and retrieve lure steadily in the shallow water.
I can always feel like I'm going to hook a barramundi when I could synchronize the vibration of swimming of the soft plastic lure and the water stream.
It is very difficult to synchronize the vibration of swimming of the soft plastic lure and the water stream when the salinity concentration of the seawater is lowered by the heavy rain.

I went fishing at Channel Island on February 18.
I was caught in a shower on the way.
It was very lucky that it cleared up at Channel Island.
But thunder was rumbling from afar.
What I dead most is thunder in  my land based barramundi fishing.
The seawater was murky, and muddy in some places.

I could synchronize the vibration of swimming of the soft plastic lure and the water stream.
As a result, I caught and released a barramundi on Zman MinnowZ 3" Goldrush.

Huge outbreak of box jelly fish?

I have a bit of pent-up frustration.
Of course I know what the continuous heavy rains bring a very good season for the land based barramundi fishing after the rainy season, but I wish for the rain to stop for about 3 days.

I went fishing at East Point during a lull in the rain on February 11.
Contrary to expectations, the sea water wasn't muddy in colour.
I waded through the shallow water to the rocks.
I realized that there were many box jelly fish in the water.
This was my first time seeing so many box jelly fish.

Moreover, they were big in size.
Wherever I cast my lures, I caught stinging tentacles with my lure every time.

Fishing was quite out of the question.
I was forced to stop fishing until the box jelly fish moved to other areas.
I waited and waited, but there was no sign of their going.
After I cleaned my lures I went home.

To date, the species is known to have killed at least 63 people in Australia since 1884.
Is a large outbreak of box jelly fish now?

It was raining heavily that night again.

Barramundi #1117
Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm
Mr. Shane Oliver
ZMan Swimbaiz Minnowz 3"

It's the first sunny day in a while in the morning on February 4.
The weather is very changeable recently.
There is no guarantee that the fine weather will hold until the evening.
I went fishing at Channel Island.
The sea water was muddy at the place that was inshore of the sea.
On the other side of the muddy water, there was a clean water.
The tidal current was going out.
I cast Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm Aussie Herring at the clean water.
At that time, I couldn't grasp the state of barramundi's baits under that situation.
Therefore, my lure colour was matched with the water colour.
As a result, I caught a small barramundi.

On the other hand, Shane Oliver caught two small barramundi there.
He used Zman Swimbaitz Minnowz 95mm Morning Glory.
He had several bites of barramundi.
I confirmed that the colour of Morning Glory had that result in the muddy water.
Because he did the same thing before.

Predictably, the rain began to fall.
We had to cut short the fishing.
After all, the rain came down in buckets.

Small barramundi have a soft mouth during this season.
We should be careful during the fish landing.

Do you know what is good about Channel Island in fishing?

The heavy rains kept me from going fishing.
So I'm going to write about my favorite fishing location, Channel Island.
I normally ask my questions of nature with genuine curiosity and await her reply.
On the other hand, I'm usually in the pearling industry.
The experience that I gained in the pearling industry helps me greatly in my land based barramundi fishing.
Channel Island is a very good place for catching barramundi by land based among my usual fishing locations.
Surprisingly, my secret spot is a flat and uninspiring sandy-shallow water there.
What is good about Channel Island in fishing?
Normally, people would think of "not difficult for barramundi to find or obtain of appropriate baits".
I think that is correct.
This fishing location has a greater bait in quantity or amount as compared to other fishing locations.
What caused this difference in quantity of bait?
  • Great tidal range
  • Mangrove forests
  • The iron contained in water from land
I think that the iron content especially is in excellent condition.

This above picture may be proof that we can collect many fragments of iron ores on the land near the fishing location very easily at Channel Island.

An iron-built ship becomes a very good artificial fish reef, but an airplane does not become a very good artificial fish reef.
Because an airplane is made from duralumin.

A huge outbreak of phytoplankton has to have iron.
The living world is supported by the food chain.
Phytoplankton is very, very important for our barramundi fishing in food chain.
I know about the importance of phytoplankton due to my job.
