Sunday morning
70cm urban barramundi #788
YO-ZURI SS MINNOW

It's not so easy to find an effective timing for catching barramundi in this cold season because we didn't have a good monsoon season.
Numbers of barramundis are not many on the shallows now.
Therefore, I can't let that chance pass me, it won't come again in that tide.

It's a very comfortable weather this morning.
The sunlight wasn't very strong.

I waded through the shallows.
I cast a shallow diving lure.
I chose red / silver in color.
Bingo!

As a result,

I like this new shirt very much.
Probably, a camouflage color did work.

Thank you very much.

We need a very good monsoon season for our barramundi fishing.

Normally, many big monsoon rains running into the sea wash away excess sand from shore.
It's a very important procedure to our land based barramundi fishing.
Land origin, ground water's influence always should be very big.

The above rock was on the region of a seashore, called intertidal zone just after a good monsoon season in 2010.
It's a very healthy condition.
The rock was totally covered with microscopic plants.  (very important)

Mullet feed on these microscopic plants.

I saw many mullets stuck to these healthy rocks in the water just after a good monsoon season.
But we can't see this above situation on the shallows this year because many rocks are covered with or as if with sand in the water.

In addition, many oyster-rocks were covered with or as if with sand  in the water too.
As a result, the population of crustaceans are decreasing.

Barramundi and Rockcod lost their spaces on the shallows.

If we had a good monsoon season, we would have many mullets on the shallows.
And we would catch some nice sized barramundis on top-water lures as follows,

Lure: LUCKY CRAFT SAMMY 115mm / BROWN HITCH
Location: Fannie Bay in 2010

Lure: LUCKY CRAFT SAMMY 115mm / AMERICAN SHAD
Location: Cullen Bay - Mindil in 2010

After all, it is up to monsoon season to be a good season for land based barramundi fishing.

Thursday night
57cm Barramundi #787
REBEL MINNOW

Mr. Matt West (The champion of Barra Classic 2010) said, 'The new lures are in stock, Hiro!'
There were some very attractive lures in a box at Fishing & Outdoor World.

Those lures were my favorite REBEL minnows.
☆⌒(*^-゚)v Thanks!! Matt!
Chartreuse (lime green), shiny silver and gold are very effective for this cold season's clear water in color.

I went fishing to the small urban creek.
The surface of the sea was flat (bad for my land based barramundi fishing).
Moreover, there were many people on the beach tonight.

However, REBEL Minnow / TIGER FIRE was very, very good.
Only problem that they had weak bibs!

As a result, I caught a very nice 57cm barramundi.
The cold season's sea barramundi is the best fish for eating in Darwin.
This season's barramundi is the best target fish of the game-fishing by land based.
Very strong!

After all, the lure was a very important factor tonight.
I must keep two more REBEL minnows.

By the way,
American lure brands, REBEL, BOMBER and SMITHWICK make the best green in color.

I think they totally know about it.

YO-ZURI SS MINNOW

Almost full moon tonight.
The surface of the sea was slightly rippled.
The water was very clear.
Not so bad.
But too much excess sand on the bottom.

As a result, I caught a small barramundi.

Sunday morning
Rockcod #299
SQUIDGY FISH
Because of the shortage of rain in the wet season

I went fishing to the shallow water this morning.
There were thousands of rocks under the water here.
I thought that the environment has changed here.
Many small rocks were covered with or as if with sand in the water.
Normally, much excess sands were washed away from our shore by big monsoon rains.
We really need this procedure of big monsoon rains for our barramundi fishing.

Barramundi and Rockcod lost their spaces on the shallows.
These spaces are very important for our land based barramundi fishing while the tide are going out.
Barramundi prefer to make a surprise attack from structures when the sea is flat or slightly rippled.
It's the same as bushwhacking guerrillas attcking from ambush.

The surfaces of many oyster-rocks are covered with or as if with sand now.
Moreover, those oyster-rocks have started to be covered with or as if with greenlaver or baby sealettuce.

The stable temperature of the cold water is not problem for our barramundi fishing here.

I didn't see many bait fishes this morning.

SQUIDGY FISH

Most of small rocks were covered with sand.

Not good at all!

Normally, monsoon rains wash away excess sands from shore.
But we didn't have enough rains in the last wet season.
I see many oyster-rocks covered with or as if with sands under the water on our shallows.
That means that the environment for barramundi is getting worse.

Barramundi #784
Reidy's Little Lucifer

There were thousands of oyster-rocks under the shallow water.
Normally, it's very difficult to control lures under the condition like this.
But Reidy's Little Lucifer didn't get snagged on rocks even at night.

Overhead the moon was shining.
I could choose shiny silver or chartreuse in colour.
My choice was chartreuse for tonight.

Sunday night
51cm Urban Barramundi #783
Reidy's Little Lucifer Export

Many people believe that it should be bad season in land based barramundi fishing in June and July because of the cold water and it should be getting better in August and September because the temperature of the water is getting warmer.

It's very difficult to say 'That's true'.

Actually, I didn't catch many barramundis on our shallows in August and September every year.
It's very, very difficult to catch a barramundi in that period.
And October, November and December were good again if it's a normal wet season.
(But too wavy water without rains is not good for our land based barramundi fishing in the wet season.)

Normally, it's not so difficult to catch a barramundi in June and July.
Even under the condition of a very cold water, they start biting lures once the water temperature became stable again.

But it's not very easy for beginners to catch many barramundis in this July.

Normally, monsoon rains wash away excess sands from shore.
But we didn't have enough rains in the last wet season.
I see many oyster-rocks covered with or as if with sands under the water on our shallows.
That means that the environment for barramundi is getting worse.

Why can't we catch many barramundis on our shallows in August and September?
There are some factors.
Here is an experiment as a factor as follows,

A water temperature in a water tank in which some fishes are raised is lowered for a prescribed period so as to make some fishes have experience of low temperature, then is rapidly raised, and temperature irritation is applied to individuals of some fishes to induce spawning.

Some fishes will migrate to estuaries of big rivers in August and September.
Some our sea barramundis and bait fishes wouldn't keep staying on our shallows in that period.

By the way, I caught a 51cm urban barramundi tonight.
I used a very shiny lure for the very clearly cold water.

I recommend the following colours of lures for a clear water.
Especially,
Chartreuse / Green
Very shiny Silver / Gold

58cm Urban Barramundi
BOMBER 14LONG A
Mr. Brett Parsons

I have kept saying that July is better than September in land based barramundi fishing in the region of Darwin city.

Brett caught a nice sized urban barramundi on Saturday.
He knows that he can catch a barramundi in the cold water very well.

I received an e-mail from Mr. Brett Parsons last night.

Hi Hiro,

I got this barra yesterday on the turn of the tide on a 5 inch bomber black back- silver prism at Xxxxx.
Can be a good lure in clear water.
My mate got a couple of queenies on live bait and some decent runs.
I was using 30 pound Finns braid with a fluorocarbon 50pound leader.

Cheers,
Brett

☆⌒(*^-゚)v Thanks!! Brett.
I agree with his idea in lure.
I had caught many barramundis on REBEL / Black back - silver in clearly cold water.

Saturday fishing
Trevally #33
Rockcod #297-298
Barramundis in the cold water?

Normally, our cold water is still very productive in barramundi fishing in Darwin.
Barramundi won't take lures at the sudden water-temperature change.
The stable water temperature is ideal for our fishing.
Even under the condition of a very cold water, they start biting lures once the water temperature became stable again.

Normally, monsoon rains wash away excess sands from shore.
But we didn't have enough rains in the last wet season.
I see many oyster-rocks covered with or as if with sands under the water on our shallows.
That means that the environment for barramundi is getting worse.

By the way, I went fishing to the rocks today.
It took 10 minutes there from my place by my 50cc scooter.

Trevally-fishing is always fun. / Reidy's Little Lucifer Export - Kryptonite

Mr. Stephen Lew (The top man of our land based barramundi fishing) and I were waiting the tide change.
We needed to play our time away and so enjoyed the prawn-bait fishing there.
There were many hits of small fish just before the lowest tide.

There were Flatheads, Breams, Whitings and the other small fishes there.
I kept Whiting for my sashimi-dinner but she was stolen by a crab.
I like the above 'the softest coolest shirt / UPF50' very much (FISHING and OUTDOOR WORLD)

SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL

Mr. Stephen Lew, Mr. Leigh Eldridge and I tried the first incoming tide at the rocks.
I used the above Mongrel and hooked 3 middle sized barramundis but couldn't land them up.
Leigh might think that my fishing rod today was too soft and thin to hook up those barramundis properly.
Barramundis live in the cold water.
