Monday evening
57cm Urban Barramundi #801
SQUIDY FISH

The condition of the surface of the sea is very important factor for catching a sea barramundi.on lure by land based.

The tides were very slow today.
But a strong west wind and wavy surface made a comfortable condition for sea barramundi.

I should choose a slightly deeper water under the condition as above.

As a result,

Total of 800 Barramundis by land based since 2010.
Barramundi #800
SQUIDGY FISH

In September 29 of 2013, it has counted a total of 800 barramundis I caught by land based on the urban shallows at Mindil Beach, Fannie Bay and East Point since 2010.

It's a very windy day today.
The surface of the sea was wavy.

There were not big water movements through today's tides.
But it was thought that a strong west wind and wavy surface made some comfortable water movements for barramundi again just like yesterday.

Unlikely slow tides
58cm urban barramundi #799
SQUIDGY FISH

The tides were slow today.
Normally, I can't expect to catch a nice sized barramundi under the condition like this.
But a strong west wind and wavy surface of the sea made some little comfortable water movements for barramundi on the shallows.

There were many sharp oyster-rocks under the water.
Barramundi is very good at weaving their way through a crowd of oyster-rocks.
But the course a barramundi should follow could be the narrow waterway between oyster-rocks and oyster-rocks under the wavy surface.

So I didn't use a steady retrieving action of lure.

'STOP and GO' is a very effective action for a very tough situation.

As a result,

I caught a 58cm very fat barramundi.
The barramundi tried to escape through many sharp oyster-rocks again and again.

I used a new line system as follows,

Main line: FIRE LINE 14lb braid

Soft knot leader line: SUNLINE 50lb braid

Hard knot leader line: SURECATCH SOFTMAX SUPER SOFT 40LB

The above line system was very smooth for the line guides of the fishing rod.
In addition, it's strong enough for a 58cm strong barramundi and sharp oyster-rocks.

And
Normally, I use a 1/8oz jig-head for a 80mm Squidgy Fish.
But I needed a heavy 1/4oz jig-head today.

Smelled bad!
Mud and water were green in colour.
Rockcod #302-303
YO-ZURI SS MINNOW

The tides were good today..
The surface of the sea was wavy. (Not very wavy)
It's the best timing for catching a barramundi.

But,

It smelled bad.
I saw mad and water were green in colour.

Urban small creek
Barramundi #798
LIBERTY LURES PITTY 75F

Today's high tide was very good for fishing at our small urban creeks.

I knew that our small urban creeks lost the proper depth because the bottoms were covered with or as if with sand.

But I wanted to catch a barramundi.

PITTY 75F / FIRE TIGER is very good lure for the night fishing.
This lure has a long bib but is very effective for the shallows.
Twitching actions is always better than pumping actions for this lure.

Darren's soft knot line system.
To protect line guides.

The line-guide gets broken when it is overpowered.
One of the line-guides of my fishing rod was broken again.

Normally, we used a heavy leader line for catching a barramundi.
40lb - 60lb sized leader lines are very popular.

I use the Kaneit knot.
I trust it very much.
Many anglers use the Slim Beauty knot and the Albright knot for catching a barramundi.

Every knot have the hard connection part.
These hard connection parts sometimes brake line-guides.

FG knot of the Blackbass fishing has a very smooth connection part.
But their leader lines should be lighter than our ones.
Moreover, it takes long time for knotting at the scene of the fishing.

I saw an interesting knot made by Darren near Brett's secret point today.
He uses a very heavy PE line for a heavy leader line so that the knot of his line system has no a hard connection part to compare with our ones.
Improving Darren's soft knot line system, I could have a safer line system for the line-guides of my fishing rod.

The above image of Darren's soft knot line system has already improved.

I received an e-mail from Mr. Jack Wong when I arrived at my place after fishing with Brett.

Hello Hiro,

Hope you are well. I christened my new Megabass SXX-85L with this 70.5 cm chrome specimen yesterday. It was surprising energetic and feisty. Like you said in your blog, lots of bait around.

Reel: Sustain 2500FG
Line: Sunline Super PE 15 lb
Leader: Sunline Rockfish FC 16 lb
Lure: Weightless Gulp Prawn 3" on 3/0 worm hook

Good fishing.

Regards,

Thank you very much.

Sunday
I went to Brett's secret Point.
Barramundi #796-797
Bluebone #1
with Mr. Brett Parsons

Brett took me to his secret shallows by his car.
He knows where urban barramundis go for spawning to.
That's why he constantly caught many barramundis on the shallows in September.
He has seen a spawning of a big female barramundi and some male barramundis.

We walked and waded through the very muddy shallows for 15minutes.
There were many healthy oyster-rocks.

The tide was going out.
The water was very murky.

First, I had a short strong hit with SQUIDGY FISH / DROP BEAR.

Second, suddenly my 40lb leader line with SQUIDGY MONGREL / DROP BEAR snapped.

That had to be a big one!  I thought. ┐(~ー~;)┌

Third, I hooked a nice sized barramundi and then she tried to jump.
I saw her nice body but I lost her.

Finally, I caught a 53cm barramundi and a small one.

Brett caught a barramundil.
He caught some nice sized barramundis in September here.

We saw some big fish-fins on the surface.
It was thought that there should be some very big barramundis at Brett's secret point.

Some nice sized barramundis took only Brett's lures!
Mr. Brett Parsons

I didn't catch any barramundis on our shallows in this week.
Of course, there are fish.
Someone caught a big milkfish, GT and Fingermarks there.

Barramundi must eat to live.
They must take their baits somewhere else.

Finally, I knew it.
Brett caught some nice sized barramundis on his secret shallow.

Hi Hiro,

I went to XXXXXX today for the first two hours of the run in tide and got these 3 barra, only one was legal. I was using a squidgy silver fox paddle tail and wriggle tail. My very first cast hooked onto a big barra but he snapped me off, I lost two more fish today.

Cheers
Brett

Hi Hiro,

I'm good, how are you?
I got this barra today at XXXXX on a squidgy silver fox fish.
I got there at the start of the incoming tide and was only able to stay for about 1 1/2 hours.
I was using 30 pound Finns braid and 50 pound fluro carbon leader.

Cheers
Brett

Thank you very much.

Some barramundis on our shallows now.
Can't keep hooking them!

I saw some big schools of small mullets on our shallows this morning.
I haven't seen those big schools since three years ago.

I couldn't catch any barramundis in this week.
But I don't take a gloomy view in the result.
Actually, I hooked couple of the nice sized barramundis and small barra in this week.
I'm in a big slump.
I can't keep hooking to the end.
I couldn't land them up.

Very good tide at night
Wavy surface means 'not so bad'.  (Not very wavy)

I felt a small hit of fish from my fishing rod.

We understand as follows,
A big hit means that the fish never come back.
A small hit means that the fish still stay there and will bite the lure again.

Two people came to this point.
Their errors invoked this disaster.

I believe that their very strong headlight scared my barramundi.

It might be a west wind??
Dugong
Barramundi #795
RAPALA 08XRD

A wind blowing from the west has brought some barramundis to Mindil Beach, Fannie bay and East Point since Thursday.
I hooked a nice sized (probably 65cm) barramundi at the rocks but the fish hided in the oyster-rocks and so lost him on Saterday afternoon.

In addition, the west wind brought a big dugong to Mindil Beach this afternoon.
Dugong is a herbivorus animal and so she/he didn't follow bait fish, did she?
I had seen some crocodiles at the same place.
This patch should be an attractive water for animals.

Big dugong stayed at the same patch for 30 minutes.

The surface of the sea was wavy. (Not very wavy)
It's much better than the flat surface.

I caught a 48cm barramundi first.
Next came a bigger barra but I lost it.

Friday evening
Barramundi #794
SQUIDGY FISH

The tide was good.
It's a very nice condition because the surface of the sea was slightly wavy.

In addition,
as the wind has been favorable since yesterday, my lure reached the certain point again.

As a result,
I hooked a 48cm barramundi behind the big rock
I pulled out him, that was hiding in the other rocks.
My STELLA did work for that situation!
