My 999th barramundi
Maria MJ-1 S110F
I hope Darwin harbor should be stocked with more larval fish every year.

January 23, 2016
I went to Channel Island to fish.
The tide was going out.
Today's tides were big, therefore, the speed of the sea water movement was fast.
The sea water went down very quickly.
I couldn't stay for long at the same fishing point which means the productive fishing window was short.
You may call it a short productive fishing window, but you cannot call it a bad productive fishing window.
The reason is because you may catch many barramundi in a short time, in a short productive fishing window.
I caught and released my 999th barramundi on lure by land based there.
I officially caught and released my 1st barramundi on lure by land based on March 30, 2010 because I started keeping a record in a blog of my fishing history from March 30, 2010.

The fishing result
78 barramundi in 2010 (50years old)
273 barramundi in 2011 (51years old)
375 barramundi in 2012 (52years old)
112 barramundi in 2013 (53years old)
83 barramundi in 2014 (54years old)
74 barramundi in 2015 (55years old)
4 barramundi in 2016 so far
Total: 999 barramundi

I tried to find the fishing-method utilizing habit thereof and tidal movement in 2010.
My job means that I often learn pearl-oysters.
Both of them are marine animals.
I was able to learn a lot of things from my job for my land based barramundi fishing.
The greater part of my land based barramundi fishing - learning is useful in my pearl-life too, nor 'vice versa'.

Live mullet are a favorite bait for barramundi.
It was very easy to find big schools of mullet in 2011 and 2012 in my usual fishing locations.
Thereafter it is almost impossible to find big schools of mullet in my usual fishing locations.
My fishing result is relative to the inflow of mullet into my fishing locations.
On the other hand, it is very important for an aquaculture people (Government) to release many young barramundi into Darwin harbor which means Darwin harbor should be stocked with larval fish every year.

Trevally #45
Barramundi #998
Bluesalmon #6
Saturday fishing

Saturday, January 16, 2016
The outgoing tide was good for Cannel Island.
The incoming tide was good for East Point.
Today's productive fishing windows were comparatively long.

I went to Channel Island by my 150cc scooter first.
A video cameraman went together with me.
He sometimes filmed from the air using a drone.

The sea water was milky in colour because there was a rain last night.
There was much freshwater mixed into this.
A sea barramundi isn't active in this water, therefore, you cannot expect me to catch a nice sized barramundi in this water.

Trevally took my lure around 2:30pm.
He was as strong as a 60cm barramundi.
I used a Reidy's Lures/Junior B52/Kryptnite.

Barramundi took my lure around 3:00pm.
This was my 998th barramundi on lure by land based.
I started counting the number of barramundi that I caught on lure by land based from 2010.
I used a Sebile/Swingtail Minnow/ Cracked Firetiger.

I had no more than two fish strikings in this water after all.

And then I went to East Point alone.
There was a rain while I was driving.
The rain had stopped when I arrived at East Point.
The tide was coming.
The sea water was very milky in colour.
I couldn't expect to catch a barramundi.
Some fish were chasing their baits on the sea surface.
I thought that catfish or bluesalmon were swimming around there.
A steady retrieve-motion is preferably used for Reidy's lures/Hellraser.
However, I mixed double twitch-motions into the steady retrieve-motion.
As a result, I caught a bluesalmon.

I still fish the shore when it is rainy, but it is not the ideal time.
In my experience, the best time for catching many good-size saltwater barramundi from the shore in the rainy season is when we have had no rain for 24 hours.

Mangrovejack #45
Squidgies Fish

Today's high tide was 7.7m.
I went to a bank near a saltwater culvert to fish.
I caught a mangrovejack.
This sized mangrovejack was as strong as a 60cm barramundi.

81cm Barramundi #997
Squidgies Fish

Tonight's high tide was 7.6m.
I thought that the sea would be still rough to fish on shore.
I went to a bank along the saltwater culvert in the city.
Unfortunately I found that two people were already fishing there.
I wouldn't join them because the bank was narrow for three people.
I started fishing at the culvert at a distance from the bank.
Fish wouldn't take my lures there.
I saw that one of them left from the bank and went to the bank.
There wasn't enough light to see his face.
I was surprised that the people there was my very good fishing friend, Mr. Ben Maunder.
He caught and released a small barramundi.
We had some slight fish strikings on our lures.
The water surface was very flat but fortunately there was no moon light.
Fish wouldn't take my lures positively.
I reduced the drag force of my fishing reel to the limit.
Some fish started holding my lures in their mouths.
They ran with my lures in their mouths.
But I couldn't hook them properly at that time.
People misunderstand that you cannot hook the fish if you reduce the drag force of your fishing reel to the limit.
Maybe you're right.
However, you will be able to increase fish's holding your lures in their mouths when fish won't take lures positively.
A good fisherman polishes his "hooking technique"in this situation.
I gradually increase the drag force of my fishing reel, giving my fishing rod some vibrations.
I used a very light Squidgies Fish 80mm black-gold with a 1/8oz jighead as a lure because my fishing line was a 10lb braid and my leader line was a 20lb mono.
The water was very shallow 30cm deep there.
A big fish ran and jump with Squidgies Fish in her mouth.
I succeeded in hooking that fish properly this time.
As a result, I caught and released a 81cm urban saltwater barramundi.

2016's first Mangrove jack #44
Zerek Live Cherabin

January 10, 2016
The productive fishing windows were short because today's tides were big.
In the morning, the sea surface was flat which means fish wouldn't take lures positively.

I went to Myilly point rocks to fish.
I used some minnow typed lures and soft plastic baits.
But I didn't have any fish strikings.
The only remaining method was to use a top water lure there.
Lucky Craft Sammy 115mm was a very nice top water lure.
A nice sized barramundi was about to take it.
But she failed to take it.
After all, the tide was far out of there.
The productive fishing window was very short.

With night coming on, I went to an urban saltwater culvert.
The seawater became 7.4m at high tide tonight.
I hooked a fish in the strong water current.

2016 this year's first barramundi #996
Sebile Swingtail Minnow

January 1, 2016
The sea was rough.
The sea water was milky in colour because of the mixing of saline water and fresh water.
Anyhow I had to find a calm water to fish.
I went to Channel Island.
Needless to say, it was very windy there.
I waded through the knee deep water on the leeward of the rocks.
The tide wasn't the best for that fishing location.
The level of the sea water didn't reduce very much.
The productive fishing window wasn't short but there were no fish strikings for a long hour.

My Shimano Stella 2500FE has been in a repair shop.
I used Shimano Sustain 1000FG fishing reel with 10lb braid line and 20lb leader line.
The fishing rod was very thin too.

I had a small fish striking just before the water current was stopping.
I usually reduce the drag force to the limit when barramundi wouldn't take lures positively.
Barramundi pulled the line for five seconds.
I added the drag force.
The thin fishing rod bended to the limit.
I took time to land that fish.

Sebile Swingtail is very effective for the shallow water on the mud flat.
Green is nicer than other in colour at this fishing location.

As a result, I caught a small but fat barramundi.

This was my 996th barramundi caught on lures by land based.
